I was inspired to embark upon my journey toward becoming a counsellor after experiencing several difficult events in my life that changed me. I struggled with grief, anxiety and self-esteem issues and felt the support available, which I so greatly needed, lacking. I craved a space to feel safe enough to share my feelings without fear of judgement. A space where I could share and explore my fears, hopes, sadness, anger and everything in between without the repercussions of guilt. I did not find that space until I started my counselling training.
The support from peers, tutors and the tools, theories and techniques I learned allowed me to become self-aware, find acceptance and enabled personal growth. My goals and ambitions as a counsellor are to offer that space to others. To support my clients in exploring what makes them who they are, identify their needs, become more attuned to their emotions and offer them the tools to better cope when life inevitably throws a curve ball as it so often does.
Please take a look through my website and if you feel I may be the right therapist for you, get in contact and we can arrange an initial telephone consultation.
I am a trained MNCPS Accredited Integrative counsellor, having gained my level 2 and 3 qualifications in counselling skills and a BA Hons in integrative counselling from the UEA. This means that I have been trained and have an understanding of many counselling modalities. These include Person-Centred therapy, Psychodynamic, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), Gestalt therapy, Existential therapy and Transactional Analysis. I do not believe that there is a 'one size fits all' therapy'. The therapy will be as individual as you. I aim to work collaboratively with my clients. As much as I offer insights, challenges and offer techniques, you are the expert in your life. This is your self-awareness journey, I am merely here to facilitate, support and explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to enable you to reach the goals you have set upon seeking therapy. Carl Rogers, the founder of person-centred therapy said there were 3 core conditions a counsellor must offer their clients. Empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence. My promise to my clients is that these will be offered every session. I offer my genuine self to my clients whilst maintaining boundaries, which in my experience, has built trusting therapeutic relationships. I adhere to the ethical guidelines of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). 'Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they're touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears.'
